CENTRE WELLINGTON — A local driver has been charged after a Sunday afternoon sobriety check on drivers in Centre Wellington.
Ontario Provincial Police say at around 1 p.m. March 9, officers from the Wellington County Detachment were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Edinburgh Avenue in Fergus.
During the operation, a passenger van entered the RIDE program.
As a result of the investigation, a 63-year-old from Fergus was charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration 80 plus contrary to the Criminal Code, police said in a news release.
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph, on March 18.
