OPP notable offences: Multiple drivers on area roadways charged

The charges include four drivers who were hit with various impaired driving offences

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has consolidated and streamlined notable traffic offences with a single release.

On July 4, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 6, Minto. At approximately 6:45 a.m., the driver of a white Sport Utility Vehicle (S.U.V.) was observed travelling well above the posted 80km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 26-year-old from Owen Sound, was charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (H.T.A.) The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, on Oct. 8, 2024.

On July 6, 2024, at approximately 8:45 a.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a grey pick-up truck on Sideroad 18, Fergus. As a result of the investigation, [a 46-year-old] of Fergus, was charged with operation while impaired contrary to the Criminal Code (C.C.) and driving while under suspension contrary to the H.T.A. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on Aug. 6, 2024.

On July 7, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to an animal in distress complaint on Metcalfe Street, Elora. It was reported that a dog was left unattended in a silver S.U.V. As a result of the investigation, [a 52-year-old] of Elora, was charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (B.A.C.) 80 Plus contrary to the C.C. The accused was scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on July 16, 2024.

On July 9, 2024, at approximately 3:15 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a black S.U.V on Wellington Road 109, Wellington North. As a result of the investigation, [a 41-years-old] of Toronto, was charged with failure to comply with release order contrary to the C.C. Further, the driver was also charged with driving while under suspension, display screen visible to driver and use plate not authorized, contrary to the H.T.A. The accused was scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on July 10, 2024

On July 13, 2024, at approximately 10 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a black sedan on Highway 6, Centre Wellington. As a result of the investigation, [a 41-year-old] of Arthur, was charged with operation while impaired contrary to the C.C. and driving while under suspension contrary to the H.T.A. Further, the accused was also charged with operate a motor vehicle without insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (C.A.I.A.). The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on July 23, 2024.

On July 14, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Highway 6, Guelph/Eramosa. At approximately 10 p.m., the driver of a blue motorcycle was observed travelling well above the posted 80km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, [a 56-year-old] of Breslau, was charged with operation while impaired and operation while Impaired - B.A.C 80 Plus, contrary to the C.C. Further, the driver was also charged with drive motor vehicle- perform Stunt - excessive speed contrary to the H.T.A. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, on July 23, 2024.

*Anyone charged with operation while impaired - B.A.C. 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or failing to comply with demand receives a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment as per statute.

*Anyone charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver's licence suspension as per statute.
