Fergus Agricultural Society volunteers invite the community to visit the 187th Fergus Fall Fair and celebrate the theme “Saddle Up” on September 13 to 15 at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.

Tayler Black, past president of the Fergus Agricultural Society, says there is something fun for everyone at this year’s fair, which is the tenth oldest in the province.

“Whether you’re a fan of truck and tractor pulls, farm animals, talented performers, food, or all of the above, we have something planned for you,” says Black.

New this year, the Great Canadian Lumberjack Show will be in Fergus for the first time. Presented by Village Media, the show will run six times over the weekend and the lumberjacks will also offer fair visitors the opportunity to try axe throwing at no cost.

The Hockey Circus Show, a performance by the Cutting-Edge Cowgirls and Ontario Xtreme Cowboy Racing demonstrations are other exciting entertainment features.

The Fun Zone

This year’s Fergus Fall Fair kicks off at 5 p.m. on September 13 with the opening of The Fun Zone, an area of rides, rock climbing, trampolines, a mechanical bull and carnival games. The area will also be open on September 14 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and September 15 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All-Day-Access Wristbands are available in advance online for $20 or can be purchased at the fair for $25. Sets of coupons will also be available for $5 and $10.

Rural roots

“The fair originally started as an event to educate farmers about improved farming practices and encourage healthy competition,” says Black. “Today we honour our rural roots by offering over 700 classes of competitions for community members to participate in, and we showcase agriculture in different ways throughout the weekend.”

As a unique opportunity for the public to learn more about food and farming, the fair will feature a Farm Animal Tent, interactive activities for kids, local farm products in the Farm Market Tent, a Touch-a-Tractor area and more.

Youth 4-H members and other exhibitors will show beef and dairy cattle, western and heavy horses, sheep, goats and chickens in competitions throughout the weekend.
