Traffic stop leads to charges in Arthur: OPP

Police say the 34-year-old showed signs of intoxication but refused to take a breathalyzer

WELLINGTON NORTH — The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), has charged an individual following a traffic stop.

On Oct. 19, 2024, at approximately 10:45 p.m., a member of Wellington County OPP stopped a vehicle on Tucker Street, Arthur.

While speaking with the driver, the investigating officer observed signs of intoxication and a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test demand was made. The driver refused to provide a breath sample for the ASD test.

As a result of the investigation, William A. Derry, a 34-year-old from Arthur was charged with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand

A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on Oct. 29, 2024.
