OPP search for two suspects after stolen vehicle crashes in Erin (UPDATED)

Update 3:30 p.m. Tuesday:

Roads re-opened, two persons still outstanding

Wellington County OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Trafalgar Road, within the Town of Erin. Two occupants still outstanding.

Today, On November 12, 2024, just before 10:00 a.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Trafalgar Road within the Town of Erin. Through the course of the investigation, it was discovered that the vehicle involved was in fact stolen and the two occupants had fled the scene into a nearby wooded area. It was believed the two persons of interest were described as the following:

Driver:

  • Believed to be a white male with facial hair
  • Approximate 30 years of age
  • Thin build
  • Dark coloured hoodie

Passenger:

  • Believed to be a female
  • Approximate 30 years of age
  • Thin build
  • Dark coloured sweater
  • Light coloured pants
  • Carrying a duffle bag

The Ontario Provincial Police aviation unit, the Emergency Response Unit (ERT), the OPP canine unit, alongside other uniform members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police attended the scene and began searching the area. Several nearby roads were closed as a result of the on-going search and investigation.

At this time, both persons of interest are currently outstanding, and the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police is asking for public assistance in the surrounding area to check their CCTV and dash cams in the event they locate the two persons of interest hiding in the area. Roads have since been re-opened.

OPP report Sideroad 17 and Sixth Line have reopened, Trafalgar Road remains closed in Erin for an investigation.

Update: 12:10 p.m. Tuesday:

(ERIN) - Wellington County OPP is currently involved in an active investigation on Trafalgar Road, within the Town of Erin.

Today, November 12, 2024, just before 10:00 a.m., The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) entered into an investigation on Trafalgar Road within the Town of Erin.

As a result of the active investigation, Trafalgar Road is closed between Wellington Road 22 and Wellington Road 124. Motorists are asked to stay clear of the area.

The investigation is in its early stages. Updates will be shared as they become available.

ERIN – OPP are asking the public to avoid a part of Erin near Hillsburgh due to an investigation. 

In a social media post by OPP West Region, the service said there will be an increased Wellington OPP presence in the Trafalgar Road area in Erin due to an ongoing investigation. 

An earlier post just minutes before said Trafalgar Road, Sideroad 17 and Sixth Line in Erin were closed following a collision.
