Driving erratically leads to impaired charges for Fergus resident

CENTRE WELLINGTON TWP — The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charge a Fergus resident with four criminal charges and one provincial charge, in relation to an impaired driving investigation.

On Feb. 21, 2025, at approximately 1:25 a.m., members of the Wellington County OPP were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle driving in an erratic manner. Officers arrived in the area, located the motor vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Wellington Road 29 within Centre Wellington.

As a result of the investigation, a 43-year-old of Fergus is charged under the Criminal Code and the Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Dangerous Operation
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Driving while under suspension

A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 45-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
