On Nov. 14, 2023, the Ontario Provincial Police, along side, Guelph Police Service, Waterloo Police Service, and the Ministry of Transportation joined teams to perform a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) safety blitz.

The safety blitz occurred at Wellington Road 86 and Elmira Road, in the north end of Guelph. The purpose of the CMV Safety Blitz is to

  • inspect vehicles for compliance with safety regulations
  • check drivers' hours of service
  • ensure proper cargo securement
  • address any equipment violations.

A total of 38 CMVs were checked for compliance and 16 of those vehicles were placed out of service. An additional 38 charges were laid.

While CMVs play a critical role in our economy, they also come with unique safety challenges. The goal of the CMV Safety Blitz is to reduce accidents, protect lives, and keep our highways safe for all drivers. Remember - If you see something unsafe on the road, report it!

If you have an urgent traffic complaint or if you suspect someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired by drugs or alcohol, please call 911 immediately. If you have a non-emergency traffic complaint, you may also call 1-888-310-1122 or report online. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a tip online here. You may be eligible for a reward from Crime Stoppers of up to $2,000.
