Geoffrey Lewis Smith, 43, (Geoffy to his friends) left us far too soon. After a brief and unexpected illness, we said goodbye to Geoff on July 14, 2024 at University Hospital in London, Ontario.
Geoff, a life-long resident of Fergus, Ontario, was born on September 25, 1980 to his proud parents Elaine and Brian Smith. Geoff is quite simply their rock. Geoff is the little brother of Heather (predeceased in 1981). Geoff is loved dearly by many aunts, uncles, cousins, family friends, honourary nieces and nephews and an incredible group of friends.
Geoff filled almost 44 years with love, team sports, travel adventures, lots of fishing, friendship and a powerful commitment to supporting his family and friends. His big hugs, unwavering support, dry sense of humour, love of music and gift for keeping people connected made the world a better place for so many people.
On Sunday afternoon, July 28, friends and family are invited to the Fergus Legion to share their sorrow, find comfort together and give thanks for Geoff’s life. Visitation will be from 1-2:30 pm. At 2:30 pm we will share stories and celebrate Geoff’s life together.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to The London Guest Home or Brooksong Retreat and Cancer Support Centre. The London Guest Home is a wonderful place of hospitality and care that supported Brian, Elaine and family while Geoff was in hospital in London. Brooksong Retreat and Cancer Support Centre, located in Haliburton, Ontario, provides retreats and compassionate support for people facing a cancer diagnosis. This is an organization dear to Geoff’s family.
