July 4, 1949 – March 1, 2025
Larry Platt passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on March 1, 2025, at the age of 75.
Born on July 4, 1949, at Fergus Hospital, Larry grew up on his family’s beef and poultry farm on the 10th Line of Garafraxa. He was also involved in 4-H as a young man and always valued the lessons and connections it brought. Larry also enjoyed his square dancing troop as a teen. Farming was a part of his early life, and he continued to earn a diploma in Agriculture from the University of Guelph and then began his career working for United Cooperatives of Ontario. In 1988, he transitioned into Real-Estate, where he built a successful career and was also honoured to serve a term as President of the Guelph and District Real Estate Board. Dedicated to his community, he was an active member of the Guelph Rotary Club and chaired Sparkles in the Park, helping bring joy to many families. Outside of work, Larry had a love for gardening, travel, reading, and solving Sudoku puzzles. He found peace at the cottage, where he spent cherished time with family and friends.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Katherine; his daughters, Shannon (Matthew Drummond) and Laura (Mark Pritchard); and his grandsons, Dalton and Dylan. He will be deeply missed by his sister, Linda and Ken Williams; his cousins, Kendra and John Hudson, Keith and Ayron Platt as well as Alex, Jess, Aiden, and Brody (step- grandchildren). He was predeceased by his parents Bernita and Dalton Platt.
Larry’s kindness, witt, dedication, and sense of community will be remembered by all who knew him. A celebration of life will be held on April 13, 2025 at 1:00 PM at The Grandway Centre in Elora. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice in Larry’s honour would be appreciated.
Arrangements entrusted to Graham A Giddy Funeral Home (280 St. David St. S, Fergus, ON, 519-843-3100). Visit www.grahamgiddyfh.com for Larry's memorial.
