August 29, 1931 - March 8, 2025
Passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025 at Barnswallow Place Community in Elmira, surrounded by the love of her family. She was in her 94th year.
Mary is now reunited with her beloved husband, Jack Klein (2014), and daughter Frances. She was the cherished mother of Annie & Perry Soenen, Margaret & Henry Vervoort, and Rob & Patti Klein. Loving grandmother to Kevin, Jason & Kris, Shawn & Jenny, Trudy & Adam, Tyler & Denise, and Natalie. Great grandmother to Rhiannon, Kyla, Samantha, Alexandra, Emma, Leanne, Jacob, Charlotte & Kolby, Brielle & Karson, and Asher and great great grandmother to Amalthea. She is survived by one brother. Mary was predeceased by her grandson Jerry, six brothers and four sisters. She will be missed by many relatives and friends, but is now at peace.
Mary and her husband came over together on a boat from Holland. Leaving both families behind, they decided to start their own bakery in their hometown of Elora, and share some of their favourite Dutch recipes with the community. After retiring you would often find her knitting or playing euchre with her friends and family. Mary was a dedicated member of the CWWL for many years. We will greatly miss hearing stories about the journey here from Holland, and of course the many fun bakery stories.
