It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our family matriarch, Catherine Louise Grominsky (née Seifried), also affectionately known by her nickname “Blondie”, on March 9, 2025 at the age of 98 in Elmira, Ontario.

Catherine is survived by her son Gerry (Peggy) Grominsky; grandchildren Mark (Melissa) Grominsky, Carey (Brad) Hutchinson, and Kelly Grominsky; great grandchildren Kate Grominsky and Breanna Blanchard; sister Therese Bruder; many nieces and nephews, and her fur baby Buddy.

Catherine is predeceased by her husband Victor Grominsky and daughter Judy Jamieson (née Grominsky), as well as by her parents Norman and Rose Seifried (née Lehman) and ten of her siblings Charlie, Joe, George, Jim, Doug, Peggy, Rose, Grace, Marie, and Emma.

Catherine was born in Pilkington Township, now known as The Township of Centre Wellington. She and her husband Victor, along with their children Gerry and Judy lived in Kitchener, Ontario prior to moving to the hamlet of Inverhaugh, located in The Township of Centre Wellington. In Inverhaugh they built their home and a successful business. They were the proud owners of the popular Blondie’s Lunch and Vic’s Esso. They were known for their homemade food, ice cream, hospitality, gas bar, and mechanic services.

For most of her life, Catherine was quite involved in her community. She was a long-time member of The Elora Legion Branch 229 Ladies Auxiliary, where she put her expert culinary skills to work and was part of a team that cooked many meals for various events throughout the years. She was also a parishioner of St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church and an avid lawn bowler, winning many trophies with her home club The Elora Lawn Bowling Club.

Catherine always kept herself busy and was very active. She enjoyed carpet bowling, alley bowling, curling, golfing, square dancing, and morning walks with her many fur babies throughout the years. She enjoyed playing euchre, whether it was Tuesday nights at the Elora Legion, her marathon euchre league or playing with friends and family. Another love of Catherine’s was dancing, she thoroughly enjoyed many Saturday night dances at the Elora Legion. A couple of her favourite bands were the Bill Beattie Band and The Country Versatiles. Catherine also did some travelling. She had the pleasure of going to Florida, as well as on many bus trips in her more active years.

Catherine will be thoroughly missed by all who knew her. She had a spirit like no other. She was strong and independent and the love for her family and friends was undeniable.

Visitation will be held at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home (280 St. David Street South, Fergus) on Friday, March 14, 2025 from 2-4 PM and 6-9 PM. A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Mary Immaculate Church (267 Geddes Street, Elora) on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 11 AM. Following Mass, guests are invited to join the family at the Elora Legion Branch 229 (110 Metcalfe Street, Elora) for a time of fellowship and refreshments.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Aboyne Rural Hospice, and are greatly appreciated by the family.
