November 23rd, 1930 - December 30th, 2024

David John Duthie passed away peacefully in Fergus, Ontario on Monday, December 30, 2024, at the age of 94. Dave’s life was one of dedication, passion, and love for those around him. He will always be remembered for looking out for everyone before himself, his wonderful sense of humour, his harmonica melodies, and the ever-present mischievous twinkle in his eye.

Dave leaves behind his cherished wife Nancy (nee Elliott), his son Bruce (Shawn), and his daughter Barb Brushett (Rick). Dave also leaves three grandchildren and two great grandchildren to cherish his memory: Reed Duthie (Celine), Chase Duthie, Tyler Brushett (Nicole Roy), Wyatt Duthie, and Sawyer Duthie, as well as his dear brother, Dr. Cameron
Duthie, and nieces and nephews very dear to his heart. Dave is pre-deceased by his brother Bob Duthie.

Dave was born November 23, 1930, in Winnipeg, MB to parents Constance (nee Godsmark) and John Duthie. Dave spent the first six months of his life living in Winnipeg before the family relocated to Toronto, On, then Hamilton, On. Dave proudly served as a Lieutenant in the Canadian Military Reserves with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada. He had a deep sense of duty and discipline that he carried with him for life.

Dave married the love of his life, Nancy, on February 26 th , 1955, at St. Enoch’s Presbyterian Church in Hamilton. Together, they shared nearly 70 years of marriage, building a life full of love and laughter. Dave worked as a travelling salesman with Bathurst Containers, designing and selling custom corrugated fruit and vegetable containers in territories throughout Belleville, Hamilton, and Fergus. After retirement, he didn’t slow down. Dave sold mushroom baskets and was actively involved in the Fergus curling and golf clubs, and pool tournaments at his residence in Elora. He was known to energetically cheer on his favourite sports teams, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and the Brantford Bulldogs.

It was easy for Dave to forge new friendships and carry-on meaningful conversations with everyone he met. His greatest love was for his family, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Dave’s legacy is one of love, purpose, and a life lived to the fullest. He will be remembered for his kindness, gentle spirit, and the countless ways he touched the lives of those around him.

Though Dave is no longer with us, his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. Rest in peace, David – you will be forever deeply missed. With private prayers, the family will bid Dave farewell until we are together again.
