An incident at an Elora Rocks game on Friday has resulted in a police charge.

Initial reports state Jamie Petrie, Stratford Fighting Irish’s bench boss, became involved in an altercation with Elora Rocks president Rich Wigmore.

Wellington County OPP confirmed an assault charge has been laid against Petrie, and he was arrested on scene.

Ontario Super Hockey League director Bill Ryan released a statement on social media, saying the league is aware of the incident.

It added the league accepted Petrie’s resignation from the Stratford team and the league executive.

"The OSHL is committed to providing a safe environment for all of its players, staff, and fans," the statement read. "We will continue to implement this moving forward. As this is an occurrence that is under active police investigation there will be no further comment at this time."

The Elora Rocks also issued a statement on social media, confirming Wigmore is okay.

It went on to thank the league’s “swift and appropriate handling of the matter.”

“It’s reassuring to know they prioritize the safety of players, staff, and everyone involved in the game.”

Then, turning to the fans, the Rocks organization offered its apologies for what took place, adding it doesn’t condone violence in any form “and deeply regret that our valued community – young and old – had to witness such an incident.”

“Thank you for your understanding as we move forward together.”
