WELLINGTON COUNTY – County council has given the green light for three major projects.
At Monday’s meeting, council approved construction tenders for the Arthur garage, the Erin library and the supportive housing development at 65 Delhi St. in Guelph worth over $30 million in total.
The Arthur garage is a new public works building on nine-acres of land, formerly zoned agricultural, to be built on Wellington Road 12 outside of Arthur for a total project cost of $16.8 million.
The new library is being constructed at a former grist mill in the Village of Erin and comes in at a total cost of $12.8 million.
Renovating 65 Delhi St. in Guelph to create a 28-bedroom temporary supportive housing building will cost $10.6 million.
Each project is going under the construction manager model which the reports stated is a “widely used construction delivery system” where the owner, in this case the County of Wellington, enters into a single agreement with a contractor who works collaboratively to find cost savings throughout construction and pre-construction.
Upon completion of the project, any cost savings will be shared between the contractor and owner.
