CENTRE WELLINGTON – An online charitable donation platform has once again named Centre Wellington as the most generous city.

Based on Canada’s top 200 most populated cities, CanadaHelps said in a press release Centre Wellington tops the list of most generous cities based on the percentage of people who have donated to charity through its platform this year.

With a population of 31,093, CanadaHelps said 6.27 per cent of its population have donated as of Nov. 30. This works out to about 1,949 people donating. The average amount donated by Centre Wellington residents was $423.

This is the second year in a row Centre Wellington took the top spot on CanadaHelps’ list. Collingwood and Fort Erie took the second and third spot respectively.

“It is wonderful to see so many smaller cities ranked high on the list of Canada’s most generous communities this year, highlighting how communities can rally together to make a big impact,” said Duke Chang, president and CEO of CanadaHelps, in a news release.

“As we head into the end of the year, CanadaHelps is calling on all Canadians to give what they can this holiday season to support causes close to their hearts or make an impact in their local community, whether they choose to donate, volunteer, or engage in other forms of generosity.”

CanadaHelps is Canada’s largest online donation and fundraising platform. Since 2000, more than 4.8 million people have donated over $3.2 billion through the platform.
