Traffic stop leads to seizure of gun, cash and drugs

ERIN – On May 24, a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 26, Erin. At approximately 2:30 p.m., a driver of a black sedan was observed operating the vehicle erratically.

As a result of an investigation, Thang Son Ngyuen, a 49-year-old resident of Waterloo, was charged with operation while impaired, dangerous operation, carrying concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, and occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm, contrary to the Criminal Code.

Further, the accused was also charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The accused was held for bail.

Over 500 grams of cocaine, a loaded handgun and over $10,000 in Canadian currency were seized.
