Speeding traffic stop results in impaired driving charges

GUELPH-ERAMOSA TOWNSHIP - The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrest a Kitchener resident for several offences including impaired operation, after conducting a traffic stop.

On Dec. 3, 2024 at approximately 12:30 a.m., members of the Wellington County OPP observed a motor vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed, to which a traffic stop was conducted on Highway 6 within Guelph-Eramosa Township.

As a result, a 34-year-old of Kitchener was charged under the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform stunt - Excessive speed

A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 14-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph on Dec. 20, 2024.
