Local Crime Stoppers tips helped recover $1.3M in drugs, property last year

Tips led to 17 arrests and 101 charges

One small step up in tips. One giant leap in the value of drugs and property seized, thanks to those leaving anonymous tips with Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington.

According to its annual report to the Guelph Police Services Board Thursday, $1,378,272 was recovered in drugs and property stemming from tips submitted to the tip line or the online portal. Of that, $1,130,869 was just drugs seized.

It was a massive jump from the year before, when $108,519 in drugs and property was recovered by police.

There were 658 tips submitted, up from 471 in 2022.

Those tips led to 14 cases being cleared, 17 arrests made and 101 charges laid.

Despite those increases, the amount of money given out stayed relatively the same.

There was $4,945 given out in 2023, up from $4,775 in 2022 and $4,935 in 2021.
