WELLINGTON COUNTY – The annual Festive Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) campaign has resulted in dozens of local impaired driving charges.
A release from OPP West Region said Wellington OPP laid 32 impaired driving charges through 125 RIDE events throughout the campaign which lasted from Nov. 21 to Jan. 1.
This is four more than the previous campaign which saw 28 charges laid but only 96 RIDE events.
This is tied for second most charges in the West Region with 48 laid in Essex and 32 laid in Oxford.
Across the 13 West Region OPP detachments there were 292 impaired driving charges laid and 19 warn-range suspensions in this time, down from 353 impaired charges and 55 warn-range suspensions in 2023.
The Festive RIDE campaign is an annual police enforcement and education initiative aimed at taking impaired drivers off Ontario roads during the holiday season.
