Peacefully, at Hospice Wellington, surrounded by friends and family Barb lost her long battle
with brain cancer. Barb was a loving wife to her husband of 24 years, Adrian Burtenshaw and the proud and devoted mother to her son David. She was the beloved daughter of the late Norman and Blanche Philps and sister to her brother Bill. Barb was a dedicated friend to many and her extended family members will miss her energy and warmth.

Through her life Barb accomplished many things, all with a dedication to detail and thoroughness. Her interest and education in English led to a successful career in editing and writing in the magazine industry and later as a freelance contributor. Barb also had many hobbies; a lifelong interest in photography was a natural catalyst for her interest in birds and flowers. She took up painting and drawing and once again her passion for detail allowed her to succeed. Some of her work is proudly displayed at her home and was used to create many beautiful cards for her friends and family. Gardening also became a great love with many hours spent making her gardens shine. Some of her fondest memories were of when we were all out working in the gardens together.

Barb was a wonderful, warm and caring person who will truly be missed. The grace and dignity that she displayed after her diagnosis and through her treatment was remarkable.

We would like to thank all that have helped us through this journey. There was never a time we felt alone and it allowed us to live life as normally as possible. Without your incredible support, these 6+ years would have been an overwhelming struggle. A particular thank you goes to everyone at Hospice Wellington where she always looked forward to the weekly outreach program. The incredible care and support provided by the staff and volunteers of the hospice residence ensured Barb was comfortable through her last days.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
