MOUNT FOREST – A proposal in Mount Forest would see more retail space created at a grocery store property.

An official plan amendment application filed with the County of Wellington proposes to build two new retail units totalling over 2,000 square metres at 504 Main St. N. in Mount Forest.

These lands currently host a No Frills, gas bar and parking lot which would remain. Proposed amendments would pave the way for redevelopment of “undeveloped and underutilized” land in the south portion of the property with two retail units.

The proposed development would provide a total of 311 parking spaces, 15 of those accessible, and 281 parking spaces while a seasonal garden centre is operating.

Existing accesses along Mount Forest Drive will remain the same but access on Main Street North will be modified to become right turn in and out only. An additional access is proposed on Sligo Road East and an existing horse and buggy access will remain open, subject to potential realignment to accommodate the development.

The official plan amendment is currently being reviewed by the County of Wellington but a zoning bylaw amendment would require a future public meeting that isn’t listed on Wellington North’s website.
