A large deluge of snow this weekend left an amount not seen locally in over two decades.
According to Environment Canada, 56 centimetres of snow was measured on the ground at the Fergus dam, it’s closest official location tracking snow depth.
It’s the most snow measured on the ground in February since 2001, when there was 54 cm on the ground.
When asked how much snow fell in the Guelph area over the weekend, the national weather authority cited data from Pearson Airport in Toronto and said 26 centimetres came down.
It’s a stark difference to the winter of 2023-24.
“We had a very warm winter last winter, generally, because of El Nino,” said Gerald Chang, weather preparedness meteorologist.
“This is just a change from that, because El Nino’s gone.”
Two to four centimetres of snow is in the forecast for Tuesday night in Guelph, with a chance of more flurries Wednesday.
