Nobody injured as large chicken barn goes up in flames

Moorefield fire was noticed by a passerby who saw flames coming out the side of the large barn

MOOREFIELD – Mapleton Fire extinguished a significant barn fire earlier today with the help of neighbouring fire departments from Minto and North Perth.

The location was a 200-foot-long chicken barn fire northwest of Moorefield on Concession Rd 8 between Side Road 6 and Robb St.

Firefighters were called to the scene around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. There was smoke and flame visible on arrival, fie officials report.

There are approximately 40 firefighters from four stations on scene.

There were no injuries to either civilians or firefighters.

The call came in from a passerby who stopped at the location and noticed flames coming from the side of the barn.

The first arriving crews made an aggressive attack on the seat of the fire and helped knock it down. The fire stopped progressing down the rest of the barn to the charlie side. Crews from the front and rear of the structure continued to hold the fire until an excavator arrived on scene to take apart the barn and extinguish hotspots.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time but is not considered suspicious. The damage has not been set  but the barn will be a significant loss.
