FERGUS – Rogers users in Fergus could see improved coverage this spring.
At least that’s the company’s plan when a new wireless tower is operating in the north end of town.
Pieces of a communications tower can be seen on Black Street across from the side of Dixon’s Home Hardware on St. David Street North.
Zac Carreiro, a spokesperson for Rogers, confirmed this is a Rogers tower and should be operating in May 2022.
Customers in Fergus from various cell phone companies, including Rogers, have made complaints about poor cell service to EloraFergusToday in the past.
Carreiro confirmed new towers are built with the intention of improving coverage but referred back to a statement sent in October when asked if this new tower is in response to customer complaints.
“We’re focused on delivering reliable, consistent wireless experience to residents and businesses in Fergus and are currently upgrading our existing towers in the area as well as building a new wireless site near the intersection of St. David Street and Black Street to improve existing coverage throughout the community,” Carreiro said in a previous email statement.
Fergus resident John Mifsud, a Rogers customer, said service is still about as bad as he claimed it was in the previous story. However, he said he was ecstatic to hear a new tower is going in.
“Seems like a lot of people came together, had their voices heard and something is being done about it,” Mifsud said via email. “The town is growing so much, we hope this is just the start.”
The Canadian cellular towers map shows three active towers in Fergus, one each for Bell and Rogers and a shared one on Wellington Road 29.
