Some parking spots in downtown Elora come with restrictions.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – There were thousands of parking tickets given out in Centre Wellington last year.

Township spokesperson Kendra Martin said via email the total number of tickets issued between June 1 and Dec. 31 was 4,602 at a total value of $217,181.

Centre Wellington retains a private company to enforce parking restrictions in downtown Elora and Fergus such as its three hour and 15 minute parking spots.

This program was previously a pilot program run in the summer months but is now in place year-round.

Prior to June 1, this parking ticket administration was handled by the County of Wellington but the township has since taken it over.

A police board report showed Wellington OPP and the private enforcement officers issued 693 tickets in Wellington County.

This represented a total value of $36,489.

The county also issued 272 invoices for false alarms in 2024 at a total value of $110,160, according to a police board report.

County policy states an at fault alarm is any alarm signal activated unnecessarily, carelessly, improperly or for a purpose other than what it is installed for, including testing an alarm without prior notification to the Wellington County OPP or one activated by faulty equipment.
