Fergus pedestrian hit by bus in Guelph has died (UPDATE)

Incident happened early Wednesday afternoon on Wyndham Street

Update: Wednesday 6 p.m: Guelph police report the man hit by the bus has died.

Police are asking people to avoid a section of Wyndham Street after a pedestrian from Fergus in his 40s was struck by a Guelph Transit bus earlier this afternoon.

The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. on Wyndham Street near the intersection with Carden Street downtown.

Police said a section of Wyndham Street between Macdonell Street and Farquhar Street will be closed for an extended period of time as they conduct their investigation into the incident.

Several police cars, an ambulance and Guelph Transit personell were on site. Photos were being taken of the bus.

The status of the person struck was not immediately known, but a police spokesperson said the injuries were serious.

Several bus routes have been detoured.
