DRAYTON – Mapleton's new water tower is showing signs of progress after a few months of construction.
Contractors first broke ground on the $6 million elevated tank in early September after council approval in June.
This was 30 per cent higher than original estimates but COVID impacts to the supply chain caused a rise material costs for the project.
Water and wastewater rates may be rising by 22 per cent, around $300 annually, for Mapleton residents pending budget approval by council.
Residential and firefighting water pressure levels in Drayton were getting close minimums set by the government and the water tower is intended to help offset this and accommodate for population growth in the future.
The water tower is being built on Drayton Industrial Drive in Mapleton's industrial park behind the PMD Arena.
The tower is scheduled to be completed in September 2022.
