NEWS RELEASE
WELLINGTON COUNTY MUSEUM AND ARCHIVES
*************************
To commemorate Remembrance Day, more than 500 memorial markers will be placed on the front lawn of the Wellington County Museum and Archives. Each marker will bear a name, honouring Wellington County’s fallen from the First World War, the Second World War, Korea, and Afghanistan.
Two remembrance events will be held at the museum in November:
- On Nov. 5, beginning at 10:30 am, Royal Canadian Legion Members will read the names of each of the fallen from Wellington County at the Remembrance Ceremony. The ceremony will take place outdoors on the front lawn of the Wellington County Museum and Archives, followed by a reception with light refreshments.
- On Nov. 10, beginning at 5:30 pm, a remembrance candle will be placed at each memorial marker as a tribute to the fallen from Wellington County. Candles will remain lit until November 12, burning throughout Remembrance Day on Nov. 11.
“We hope as many people as possible will join us for both remembrance events,” said Museum Programming Supervisor, Emily Peters.
For those unable to attend in person, the Wellington County Remembers Database, launched in 2020, brings the names on the markers to life through photographs, letters, attestation papers, and service records. The database is available at www.wellington.ca/LestWeForget.
