NEWS RELEASE

WELLINGTON CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

*************************

The Wellington Catholic District School Board welcomes families to register their children online for Kindergarten beginning Monday, January 3 for the 2022-2023 school year.

Kindergarten registration is set to run until January 28 and is conveniently available online. To assist in optimal planning for Kindergarten programs for the upcoming school year, we encourage families to register within this registration period.

To attend Year 1 (Junior) Kindergarten in September 2022, students must be four-years-old on or before December 31, for those inquiring about starting in Year 2 (Senior) Kindergarten – children must be five-years-old on or before December 31.

The Kindergarten program is a two-year experience that builds community and provides rich and inclusive learning for all children within a faith-based education environment. The purpose of the program is to establish a strong foundation for learning in the early years, and to do so in a safe and caring play-based learning environment. It is designed to help children build on their prior knowledge and experiences, form concepts, acquire foundational skills, and form positive attitudes towards learning. In addition, it lays the foundation for children's success throughout their school years. Where sufficient interest exists, Before and After School programs are also available to supplement the Kindergarten experience.

The process for Kindergarten registration is hybrid this year with pre-registration occurring conveniently online and a subsequent follow up from your local Catholic elementary school to complete the enrolment.  Please visit www.wellingtoncdsb.ca/apps/pages/kindergartenregistration to begin the process, families will receive a verification e-mail to confirm pre-registration and share next steps.

“At Wellington Catholic, we are committed to places of learning that are safe, caring and inclusive,” said Tyrone Dowling, Superintendent of Education. “We are a community that inspires excellence.  Our staff look forward to working with your child to ignite the divine spark, natural curiosity, and the God-given strengths in each one of them.”

Unique to Wellington Catholic DSB, families interested in having their child enter school immersed in an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme have the option to do so at Sacred Heart Guelph. Sacred Heart Catholic School in Guelph has been certified as the only local public provider of the Primary Years Programme, and only the second in Ontario. For children in Kindergarten to age 12, the Primary Years Programme nurtures and develops young students as caring, active participants in a lifelong journey of learning by offering an inquiry-based curriculum framework that builds conceptual understanding. The program has evolved to become a world leader in future-focused education, recognized as an example of best educational practice globally, responding to the challenges and opportunities facing young students in our rapidly changing world. As well, the Primary Years Programme provides education that promotes critical thinking skills and allows elementary students to begin their French studies in Kindergarten. Please note, that limited space is available, and registrations must be completed by January 28 to be considered for this program.

Please visit our Kindergarten Registration page for more details on how to register: https://www.wellingtoncdsb.ca/apps/pages/kindergartenregistration

We look forward to welcoming new students to our Wellington Catholic family!
