FERGUS – Popeyes fried chicken restaurant has come to town.

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen opened for business on Wednesday in Fergus on Tower Street South, formerly a Pizza Pizza.

The fast food restaurant, owned by Tim Hortons parent company Restaurant Brands International, has over 3,000 locations across the world with over 200 in Canada.

This is owners Imran Ali and Amber Saeed’s eighth Popeyes they have opened, with most being in the Toronto area.

Saeed explained in an interview at the restaurant they see an opportunity to expand into small towns with less competition and plan to open more in other places. He also said this location benefits from being directly on busy Highway 6.

The business partners said they were excited to open after 10 months of work, including building a drive-thru.

However, Saeed said the drive-thru is not quite ready as it needs more township approvals before it can operate.
