Family fun and farm safety comes to Wellington County on Saturday.

The Wellington County Farm and Home Safety Association is hosting its sixth annual pancake breakfast at the Alma Community Hall on March 1 from 9 to 11:45 a.m. The event is free.

The event is about children’s safety around the farm and home. Safety booths about electrical, ATV, grain bin, first aid, chemical, power take-off, and stop-think-act will be set up at the community hall.

Breakfast will include pancakes, sausages and Sunlane Farms maple syrup.

“With spring just around the corner it’s a good time to review safety ideas with the entire family,” said Walter Grose, Wellington Farm Safety Board member, in a press release.

“It’s our goal to teach the farming and rural community about safety prior to the busy season, in hopes that the message is passed on around the kitchen table to all family members. If one injury can be prevented, or one life can be saved, we have accomplished something from hosting the Pancake Breakfast,” he said.

Safety Sam the clown will be on site to answer safety-related questions. “Kids find it easy to approach me to ask questions when I am dressed up as a clown. We talk about some serious things but need to keep their interest – especially the young kids – as Safety Sam I can do that,” said Grose.

Passports will be given to participants when they arrive and will be stamped at each booth they visit. Once the passport is filled out it can be entered in a draw to win prizes.
