Long-term care facility Eden House is seeking rezoning to be able to operate partly as a retirement home.

EDEN MILLS – A rural long-term care facility is seeking approvals to allow it to operate as a retirement home, although it already has been according to a planning report.

Eden House has applied for rezoning with the Township of Guelph/Eramosa for the long-term care facility which has been operating at 5016 Wellington Rd. 29 for over 50 years.

A report said the existing facility has a floor area of 35,000 square feet and 56 bedroom units.

“The owner plans to renovate the units with cosmetic changes that include painting and updating current fixtures as well as other internal modifications but no changes are currently proposed to the exterior of the building,” the report said.

It also said 21 of the bedrooms have already been operating as a retirement home in the existing building.

“The application to add retirement use to the subject lands will address the growing demand for senior housing within the Township of Guelph/Eramosa (and the county more broadly), cater to the needs of the aging population and provide additional housing options for the elderly,” the report said.

No public meeting date has been set for this proposal.
