FERGUS – The Centre Wellington Black Committee (CWBC) is hosting a special Black History Month event featuring narrative performances highlighting stories and heritage of Black Canadians.

A press release said the BHM Awakened Voices Narratives Edition will feature a “series of powerful narratives, performances and presentations that highlight the diverse voices and stories within our community.”

Performances from Carlos Morgan, Kevin heronJones, J. Nichole Noel and Raechele Lovell will bring to life narratives of iconic Black figures such as Levi Carroll, Chloe Cooley, John ‘Daddy’ Hall, Lucie Blackburn, Richard Pierpoint and more.

“Through these powerful stories and performances, we aim to honour our past, inspire our present and pave the way for a brighter future,” said CWBC chair Millicent Gordon, in the press release.

The event will be free with donations collected at the door and runs 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Feb. 28 at Melville United Church in downtown Fergus.
