Couple accused in Lucas Shortreed death appear in court

Dave and Anastasia Halliburton are accused in the Oct. 2008 hit and run death of Lucas Shortreed near Alma

The case against a couple accused in the fatal hit and run of Lucas Shortreed 14 years ago has been pushed to Dec. 6.

Dave and Anastasia Halliburton were not present in court Tuesday, but their cases were heard by their lawyers.

Both were arrested and charged Sept. 21 after a search warrant was executed in Mapleton Township. A vehicle was recovered at the scene.

They were both released on bail.

It stems from an incident Oct. 10, 2008. OPP said 18-year-old Shortreed was walking on Wellington Road 17 near Alma at around midnight after attending a party near Elora, when he was struck and killed by a vehicle.

Police determined the vehicle, which fled the scene, was a 1995-1997 white Dodge Neon.

Dave Halliburton, 55, is charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident involving bodily harm or death and obstructing justice. Anastasia Halliburton, 53, is facing charges of accessory after the fact to commit an indictable offense and obstructing justice.
