This weekend, Elora House will be holding a 'Coldest Night of the Year' winter walk.

Walks are also planned for Guelph, Erin and Minto.

On Saturday, people in Guelph, Fergus, Elora and Wellington County will join thousands of others in over 100 cities across Canada in “The Coldest Night of the Year”, a 2km and a 5km winter walk around the Grand River Raceway track.

The walk will be in support of Elora House a non-profit charity, that provides temporary, safe housing and support for the emotional and physical needs of women experiencing crisis, as a result of sex trafficking.

This year's goal is to raise $80,000 with the support of more than 20 teams and 150 walkers.

The event starts with check-in at Grand River Raceway at 4 p.m. Opening remarks happen at 4:45 p.m. and the walk begins at 5 p.m., followed by a light meal.

The shelter operates on private donations and the money raised by this fundraising event.

ERIN

The Erin event starts with check-in at 14 Boland Dr. at 4 p.m. Opening remarks happen at 4:45 p.m. and the walk begins at 5 p.m., followed by a light meal.

This year's beneficiary is East Wellington Community Services and the goal is $50,000.

MINTO

In Minto the beneficiary is Community Resource Centre of North Wellington and Centre Wellington.

The walk has already surpassed it's $20,000 goal, with more than $31,000 donated as of Thursday.

Registration at the Harriston Arena starts at 4 p.m. The walk gets underway at 5 p.m.
