300-home subdivision proposed in Salem

Cachet Developments has a zoning bylaw amendment to pave the way for the Clayton subdivision near Salem Public School

SALEM – A new subdivision proposal would see nearly 300 new homes near Salem Public School.

Cachet Developments Inc. has applied for a zoning bylaw amendment that would pave the way for 147 single detached homes, 149 townhouse units, a park and open space on about 30 acres of land known municipally as 75 Woolwich St. E. near Irvine Street.

There are currently no buildings on the property referred to as the Clayton subdivision in a planning report and urban design brief.

Two existing road stubs, Marr Drive and Clegg Road, to the south of the land are proposed to be extended which will connect the Clayton subdivision with an existing residential area.

An open space block for the west side of the property included in the draft plan is intended to provide a buffer to a forested area and provide a walkway connection to nearby Salem Public School. There is also a linear park block and walkway proposed to go along Woolwich Street East.

The developer also owns lands on the other side of Irvine Street, called the Elora Sands property in the planning report, and this is where the stormwater management facility for the Clayton subdivision is proposed to go.

GTA-based Cachet has housing developments and proposals in nearby Arthur and Erin.

There is no scheduled public meeting as of yet but the Township of Centre Wellington said comments should be submitted by Oct. 7.

The application and supporting reports can be found here.
