CENTRE WELLINGTON – A local food fundraiser isn’t your typical food drive looking for canned goods and other non-perishables.

The Fresh Forward Foodraiser, led by Fresh Box Market and MV Real Estate, will provide fresh food by raising funds through direct donations and a portion of sales of single produce boxes from Fresh Box Market through to Dec. 14.

“This foodraising campaign will provide fresh food by leveraging the Fresh Box Market’s economies of scale, contacts and business model to provide community members with fresh, healthy and nutritious food for the holidays,” said Rob Voisin, MV Real Estate owner, in an email.

The money raised will be used to buy fresh produce which will then be given out on Dec. 16 at Guelph’s Shelldale Centre from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Fresh Box Market on Scotland Street in Fergus from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and at MV Real Estate Brokerage on St. Patrick Street West in Fergus with no questions asked.

Last year, $7,000 was raised and this year’s goal is $20,000.

“Food insecurity is a significant issue in Wellington County and beyond, including urban centres like Guelph and smaller communities such as Fergus and Elora,” a promotional package for the fundraiser said. “It impacts individuals and families who struggle to access nutritious food due to financial constraints or other barriers everyday.”

Donations and orders can be done online here.
