WELLINGTON COUNTY — Almost 20 drivers are facing impaired charges thanks to ongoing local Festive RIDE campaigns this winter.
According to a new release from the West Region Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), 17 impaired charges have been laid in Wellington County during the 2024 OPP Festive RIDE events (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere). No warning range suspensions were given.
So far, 52 events have been held across Wellington County.
In 2023, 14 impaired charges and two warning range suspensions were laid throughout the campaign.
Across the West Region, 883 RIDE checks were held resulting in 148 impaired charges and 10 suspensions.
This year's Festive RIDE Campaign will run from Nov. 21 to January 1, 2025. The OPP said members of the public should expect an increased OPP presence on West Region roads and highways throughout the campaign.
