WELLINGTON COUNTY - In an effort to enhance road safety and reduce traffic-related incidents, the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will be participating in a traffic safety campaign titled Operation Impact. This initiative will focus on key areas that contribute to roadway dangers. Focus will be placed on traffic safety and the Big Four which include: speeding and aggressive driving, seatbelt compliance, distracted driving, and impaired driving.

Starting Oct. 11, 2024, the campaign will run through Oct. 14, 2024, featuring increased enforcement efforts, the initiatives will be aimed at educating drivers on the importance of safe driving behaviours.

The Big Four:

1.   Speeding: Excessive speed remains a leading cause of accidents. Officers will be actively monitoring speed limits across the county.

2.   Seatbelt Use: Proper seatbelt use is a simple yet effective way to save lives. During this campaign, the OPP will be emphasizing the importance of buckling up for every ride, and officers will be conducting seatbelt checks throughout the county.

3.   Distracted Driving: Texting or using mobile devices while driving significantly increases the risk of accidents. Our officers will be on the lookout for distracted drivers.

4.   Impaired Driving: Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs poses a serious threat to all road users. The OPP will be conducting Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checks and increasing patrols during peak hours to deter impaired driving.

Let's work together to make our roads safer for everyone this holiday long weekend.
