May 3rd, 1938 - February 4th, 2025
It is with profound sadness that the family of Bob Young announces his passing on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at the age of 86.
Bob will be deeply missed by his beloved wife for 55 years, Pat Young; his children, Lisa Bellamy (Steve),
Bob Young (Janine), and Diana Meadows; his cherished grandchildren, Zack Meadows, Landyn Meadows, Megan Bellamy, and Claire Bellamy—his "little chickadees"; as well as his sister, Cathy Murray; his brothers, Jim, John, and Jeffrey Young; and countless nieces and nephews.
Born on May 3rd, 1938, in Elora, Bob was the son of Mary Young (Robinson) and Robert Young, and stepson to Lila Young. A dedicated member of his community, Bob spent countless hours coaching minor hockey, baseball, and ringette, teaching generations of local kids how to skate and throw a ball. Bob’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those he taught, in every child who laces up their skates or steps up to the plate with confidence. The patience, wisdom, and joy he shared will continue to ripple through the community, a lasting testament to the man who gave so much. He was an Elora Rock, a Guelph Old Bone, and a Fergus Fossil, playing hockey till he was 80, a passion fuelled by his love for the game and his teammates. He also played for the Elora Slow Pitch and served as Treasurer for many years.
Affectionately known as the unofficial mayor of Elora, Bob had a way of turning a quick trip to the post office into a two-hour venture, always taking the time to check in on friends and neighbours along the way. With his kind heart, friendly smile, signature whistle, and faithful dog by his side, he left an unforgettable mark on the town he loved. His presence will forever be a cherished memory for the people of Elora.
Bob was a devoted member of Knox Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and was always ready to lend a hand wherever he was needed. His service to the church and the community was unwavering, and for that, he is deeply appreciated.
Bob’s work took him all over the world, but no matter where he went, his heart remained in Elora. He carried a map and endless stories, eager to share the beauty of his hometown with everyone he met. His love for Elora was as much a part of him as he was a part of Elora.
A heartfelt thank you to Wellington Terrace for their exceptional care, with special gratitude to Dr. Stickney, Nurse Ryen and amazing staff of Oak Glen and all who provided extraordinary kindness and support.
Bob was a man of kindness, laughter, and unwavering devotion—to his family, his friends, and his town. His absence leaves a space that can never be filled, but his legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched.
He will be forever missed and lovingly remembered.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 275, 500 Blair Street in Fergus, Ontario, on Friday, February 21st, 2025 from 1:00 to 4:00pm. www.grahamgiddyfh.com
