September 28th, 1936 - January 27th, 2025
Our beloved mom, grandmother (Oma), great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend passed onto her heavenly home, and into the arms of her Heavenly Father and Saviour in the early morning hours of January 27, 2025. At the time of her passing Winnie was blessed to be in the gentle care of the nurses and the PSW‘s of Royal Terrace Nursing Home. Over the 10 months that she resided there the staff/team and direct care providers welcomed our mom into ‘another family’ whom she grew to love, and who enjoyed her sense of humour. We, her family, will be forever grateful for their wonderful care.
Winnie was predeceased by her dearly beloved spouse of 59 years, Mathys (2018), she is the dearly loved mother of Mary, Sandy (Alvin), Wilma (Paul), Karen (Ted), Mark (Maria), Rob, Paul, Jim (Yvette), and Trevor. Winnie is the adored grandmother (Oma) and great-grandmother of 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Winnie is also loved by, and survived by, her sister Wilma (Barend), her sisters-in-law Ria, Truus, Els, and Bertien, and many, many nieces and nephews.
Winnie’s children, grand, and great-grandchildren with the joy of her life and she made each one of us a priority in her life; she was also known to be a ‘mom’ to many of our friends, opening her home to all. In our early growing years mom and dad also shared their hearts and support with a young child through World Vision, and then over the more recent years have supported and loved the children of Haiti through the St. Andrew’s HEARTS Mission.
In lieu of flowers, family welcome your donations to the HEARTS Mission at St. Andrew’s, Fergus, also of special meaning to our parents was the work of ‘Doctors Without Borders’.
Family and friends are welcome to a visitation which will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 1 PM to 2 PM at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 325 St. George Street West, Fergus, followed by a celebration of life service for Winnie at 2 PM.
