It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marieta Gonzalez (Galido), who left us peacefully in her sleep on June 21, 2024.
Marieta immigrated to Canada from the Philippines with her loving husband, Ariel Gonzalez, with hopes of creating a brighter future. She served as a compassionate and skilled nurse at Grand River Hospital (Formerly K-W General Hospital), where she was known for her kindness and unwavering commitment to patient care.
Beyond her professional life, Marieta was a loving and devoted caretaker to her niece and nephew, whom she cherished deeply. Her nurturing spirit eventually extended to more of her family, like Ever ‘Bing’ Olle and her son, Caleb Olle, that left an indelible mark on their lives. In her final years, Marieta was lovingly cared for by her family members, especially Ever Olle, who provided her with unwavering support and companionship.
Marieta is survived by her beloved brother (Adelfo Galido), his wife (Flora Galido), and their children and spouses (Jeric Galido, James Wyatt, Meloday Grace Widmeyer (Galido), David Widmeyer), who will continue to honour her memory. Her kindness, strength, and selflessness will be remembered by all who knew her.
A private service will be held to celebrate Marieta's life and the love she shared with those around her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Grand River Hospital or St. Anthony Daniel Catholic Church in recognition of Marieta's lifelong dedication to healthcare and compassionate service and her faith.
