It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of John Gary Beaven on August 6, 2024 at the age of 85. The son of the late John and Marguerite Beaven, John was born on September 17, 1938 in Ottawa. John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kathryn (Kath) Jean Beaven with whom he shared a wonderful life, his son Sean Beaven, his two grand-children, Jeremey and Jamie Lee Beaven, two brothers Brian Beaven (Vera Iodko) of Ottawa and Philip Beaven (Mairi) of Wooler, Ontario, five nieces and nephews and 12 grand nieces and nephews.

John had four loves in his life: his beloved wife Kath, Vincent motorcycles, British cars from the 1950s and his cottage on the Ottawa river in Woodridge, Ontario. His love for Woodridge all started as a boy living in Ottawa and going each summer to his grand-parent’s cottage which is still standing today and only 3 doors down from John’s own cottage. He became quite popular with the girls during those summers at Woodridge, teaching many of them how to water ski on the Ottawa river. John also had a life long passion and curiosity for anything mechanical and restored many motorcycles and collectable cars from scratch over the years. From the age of thirteen, John loved the freedom of a good motorcycle ride.

The family wants to thank the wonderful and caring staff at Wellington Terrace in Fergus, Ontario for the unbelievable care they gave John throughout his stay and for the exceptional compassion all the staff showed during his last days. Their care and compassion are so deeply appreciated by the family. A special thank-you to Dr. J.R. Stickney for keeping John comfortable until the end and for his words of solace.

Abiding by John’s wishes, he has been cremated and there will be no visitation or celebration of life. John will be interred at Whyte’s cemetery, Woodridge, Ontario at a future date, to be announced.

For those who wish, a memorial may be made in John’s name to Wellington Terrace Long Term Care Home, 474 Charles Allan Way, Fergus, Ontario N1M 0A1 or online at www.wellington.ca/form/wellington-terrace-donations or the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada at [email protected]
