ELORA – The Elora Rocks will debut a former homegrown NHL player at its first home game of the season.
The senior A team announced signing Tye McGinn, 33, of Fergus, on Wednesday.
McGinn’s hockey career includes time in the NHL with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Arizona Coyotes, San Jose Sharks and Philadelphia Flyers as well as stints in the AHL and German Elite League.
In total the middle of three McGinn brothers to make the NHL, played 89 games in the sport's top level, scoring nine goals.
The left winger will hit the ice with the Rocks for the first time Friday evening for Elora’s first home game of the Western Ontario Super Hockey League (WOSHL) season.
Elora will be up against the Orangeville Blitz at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex on Friday at 8:30 p.m.
On Saturday, the team will hit the road to face-off against the Delhi Flames starting at 8 p.m.
The Rocks played its first game of the season on Oct. 6 in Strathroy where the team lost 5-4 against the Jets.
Elora were the playoff champions in the inaugural WOSHL season, capturing the Sleeman Cup for the 2021-2022 season. The Rocks came up short in the semifinals last season against the Stratford Fighting Irish who went on to win the playoffs.
