FERGUS – A franchise restaurant in south Fergus has suddenly closed without notice.
Fergus’ Boston Pizza, located on McQueen Boulevard just off Highway 6, is now closed.
A letter posted on the front door said “the store has been permanently closed due to the unlawful acts” by the landlord Bruce Youngblood.
When reached by phone, Youngblood said accusations of him being unlawful are “absolutely incorrect” but confirmed the restaurant is no longer in business in that location as of Tuesday night.
“This came with no prior advance notice at all,” Youngblood said.
He also declined to comment on why the franchise is closed or why this letter would be posted.
Efforts to reach the franchise owner for comment were unsuccessful.
"We regret that the current local owner has decided to close their Boston Pizza restaurant," an email statement from Boston Pizza International said. "However, given the continued popularity and success of the other Boston Pizzas in the area and all across Canada, we will work quickly to find new owners and return more Boston Pizza restaurants to the area as soon as possible."
The statement from Boston Pizza International declined to share information about a particular restaurant's operations.
A post about the sudden closure on a community Facebook page brought in a flood of comments knocking the quality of this location and lamenting the sudden loss of jobs.
"Awww man, I always really liked it there," Kris posted.
"This is sad. The hosts were always lovely," Colby wrote.
"It was truly only a matter of time. I am surprised it lasted this long," Misty commented.
The Fergus Boston Pizza opened in November 2014 but changed ownership since then.
