FERGUS PIPE BAND
************************
A ‘Traditional Robbie Burns Supper’ will be hosted by the Fergus Pipe Band on Saturday Jan. 27 at the Fergus Legion.
Burns Suppers are held worldwide on or about Jan. 25, the birth date of Scottish poet Robert Burns. In Fergus, this community event has been hosted over the years by various groups of volunteers. In addition, individuals host smaller celebrations in their homes. Regardless of the size of the gathering, the focus is basically the same, a celebration of the life, times and works of Scottish poet Robert (Robbie/Rabbie) Burns, following traditions that are rooted in the 18th century.
The poems, ballads and other writings of a man who spent only 37 years (1759 – 1796) on this earth have continued to be celebrated for over 220 years because Burns skillfully took his observations of people, politics, flora and fauna and recorded them as poems, ballads and song. His body of work includes, but is not limited to, tributes to haggis, a mouse, a louse, a toothache, love of women and above all, Scotland and her people.
Filled with traditional toasts, pipes & drums and the famous Address to a Haggis, attendees enjoy a full Scottish meal and evening of entertainment, giving them a chance to sample some of Scotland’s culture and tradition.
The evening’s program will conclude with the singing of Auld Lang Syne, an iconic song attributed to Burns.
Doors will open at 5:30 for the Robbie Burns Supper at the Fergus Legion, 500 Blair Street, Fergus. The program will begin at 6:30.
Tickets are $55.00 if purchased in person at the Fergus Legion (500 Blair Street, Fergus) or the Fergus Scottish Corner Shop (181 St Andrew St W, Fergus) during their business hours or on-line at Eventbrite ($55 + $4.58 Eventbrite charges) ).
