ELORA – Elora’s best burger has been crowned.
The Evelyn gets the bragging rights as its burger came out on top of a six-way competition dubbed the Elora Burger Battle.
The burger battle was decided by patrons who would have visited the participating restaurants and tried a featured burger before casting a vote.
Turns out, restaurant goers in Elora liked the Evelyn’s burger best. It features bacon, Gruyère, French onion spread, crispy onion, iceberg lettuce and an all-beef patty from a local butcher on an herb-buttered brioche bun.
“It’s great, you know we’re very excited to have won and my chef’s very happy with the result,” said Maclean Hann, owner of The Evelyn.
Hann said the vote was pretty tight with The Badley’s burger coming a close second.
Other participating restaurants included: The Friendly Society, Handsome Devil Bistro, Elora Brewing Company and Elora Mill.
Hann said The Evelyn went with a more classic burger that diners could pick up, eat with their hands and not have it be too messy which may have helped tip the odds towards The Evelyn.
“It’s just about using good ingredients, a great bun and a good patty which we sourced from the Geddes Street Market,” Hann said.
Despite that, Hann said all restaurants produced a great burger and it could have gone to any of the other restaurants.
He also noted restaurants were busy during what is normally a slower period for business in Elora and therefore the burger battle will become an annual event in town.
