ELORA – A Downtown Elora street will remain closed to vehicles for the rest of the day to repair a collapsed sewer.

A construction crew was still on the scene of Metcalfe Street Thursday morning for an emergency sewer repair which closed a portion of the street between West Mill Street and James Street on Wednesday afternoon.

“Township wastewater staff are repairing a collapsed section of sanitary sewer,” said Colin Baker, township managing director of infrastructure services, in an email. “The cause of the collapse is not known at this time.”

Metcalfe Street will be closed to vehicular traffic for the remainder of Thursday while repairs are being completed. Pedestrians can still use sidewalks on both sides of Metcalfe Street during the road closure.
