A rainfall warning has been issued for our area, as a tornado watch remains in effect.

Environment Canada says rain will continue this afternoon and through to Sunday.

We could see a total of 50 to 100 mm, with the potential of higher amounts due to thunderstorms.

Conditions are also favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that could produce tornadoes.

Heavy downpours, 90 km/h wind gusts and toonie sized hail are all possible.

Volatile weather has already passed through our area. Earlier today, a possible tornado was spotted in Ayr.

“In the event of a tornado, or if a tornado warning is issued for your area, it is recommended you take the following actions: Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can. As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris,” Environment Canada said in its tornado watch.

Meteorologists expect thunderstorms to dissipate this evening.
