A popular summer music festival is cancelled for the second year in a row, but Riverfest Elora promises to be back for 2022.
“As the year has rolled on and we have gotten closer and closer to the summer, we have come to the heartbreaking conclusion that we will have to postpone the twelfth instalment of Riverfest Elora once again,” said a press release from the festival sent on Monday.
The 2021 festival was scheduled for Aug. 20 to 22 at Bissel Park in Elora, but will now be planned for Aug. 19 to 21 in 2022.
“The health and well-being of our fans, artists, staff, partners and the community continues to be our highest priority and unfortunately, it is not looking like large-scale events such as ours will be possible in 2021,” said the release.
The festival organizers say they are working with artists, agents and management to invite what they expect to be the biggest line up to date.
Artists who have performed at the festival in the past include: The Flaming Lips, Blue Rodeo, City and Colour, The Sheepdogs, Bruce Cockburn, 54-40, Mother Mother, Carly Rae Jepsen and many others.
The festival said in the release that any tickets purchased already for the 2020 or 2021 dates will be honoured at the planned 2022 event and no action is required on the part of ticket holders to be admitted next year.
“We hope that this will allow you the flexibility to hang on to your tickets, locked in at the 2020 price and help us out along the way,” said the release.
Information on how to receive a refund is also included in the release on the festival’s web site.
The festival organizers said the ticket pre sales will help to bring the festival back next year.
“These early sales, before we’ve even announced a single band, are what help us keep the lights on throughout the year and help immensely in allowing us to create truly memorable experiences for all of you,” said the release.
In the release, the organizers thanked their ‘Riverfriends.”
“We are incredibly thankful to our community of festival goers and can not express in words how appreciative we are of all of you, who have stuck by us over the years and through this pandemic to help us continue to grow our little festival into the incredible, wonderful and beautiful celebration that it has become,” said the release.
